Everything You Need to Know About Fraxel®

We love aesthetic treatments that work on more than just one skin condition, so it should come as no surprise that Fraxel is one of our all-time faves here at Ultimate Image in Tampa and Clearwater. In this post, we’ll do a deep dive into Fraxel, giving you all the info you’ll need to know before scheduling a consultation for this innovative skin procedure.

What is Fraxel®?

Fraxel is a collection of therapeutic lasers using different wavelengths to achieve laser resurfacing of the skin. Each laser and wavelength targets a different skin issue or condition.

How Does Fraxel® Work?

Fraxel works by creating microscopic columns of focused energy that destroy the cells to promote healthy regeneration. As the treatment areas heal, old cells are replaced with new ones, along with new collagen, elastin, cytokines, and other growth factors. This leads to fresh, healthy, and youthful-looking skin!

What Conditions Does Fraxel® Treat?

Fraxel is a one-stop shop for so many skin conditions, including:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Scarring and texture issues
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Actinic Keratosis

If you’re not sure if Fraxel will help your skin condition, speak with your aesthetician about your concerns.

How Many Fraxel® Treatments Will I Need?

Fraxel is designed to give great results with just one treatment! However, most patients will require 3-5 treatments for maximum initial results, then recurring maintenance treatments to keep your results fresh and on point.

How Will My Fraxel® Treatments Be Spaced Out?

Your facial skin is incredibly delicate, so you don’t want to overdo it with any treatment, and Fraxel is no exception. Fraxel treatments should be spaced at least 2-6 weeks apart, but your aesthetician might want to space them out even further if you have underlying skin issues.

How Soon Will I See Results With Fraxel®?

You’ll see some initial results as soon as your skin has recovered from the Fraxel laser treatment, which will continue to improve as time goes on. That’s because the skin treated with Fraxel is gradually replaced with new cells, so the effects take some time to appear. You will see final results within 3-6 months of your last treatment.

How Long with My Fraxel® Results Last?

One of the most amazing things about Fraxel laser treatments is that the results last so long. Depending on your skin’s condition, you may not need another round of Fraxel treatment for years!

Does Fraxel® Hurt?

Most patients do not report pain during a Fraxel procedure, but instead a feeling of intense heat. To help with any discomfort, we apply a local topical anesthetic and direct cold air to the treatment site during the treatment.

Does Fraxel® Have Any Side Effects?

While Fraxel is a safe procedure, some patients may experience some side effects, including:

  • Mild redness
  • Swelling
  • Itching
  • Sunburn-like pain
  • Change in skin color

As with any medical procedure, there is a slight risk of infection at the treatment site after a Fraxel treatment. If you notice any signs of infection, like extreme redness, sudden swelling, a foul smell, or pus coming from the treatment site, seek medical attention immediately.

Fraxel® Aftercare Tips

It’s important to care for your skin properly after a Fraxel procedure. Your aesthetician will give you full post-procedure instructions, which will include (but are not limited to):

  • Avoid direct sunlight
  • Use SPF every day
  • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer twice daily
  • Do not touch or pick at your face
  • Do not exfoliate
