Here are eight of our favorite New Year’s resolutions perfect for anyone who wants to make a healthy, vibrant appearance a priority in 2024.

1. Stay Hydrated

Water really is a miracle liquid, giving your body what it needs to stay healthy and feel great. Make hydration a priority in 2024 by making a resolution to drink enough water each day. Adequate hydration is essential for the skin, your body’s largest organ, to function properly. Water helps maintain the skin’s barrier, protecting you from environmental toxins and damage. People who drink enough water enjoy clear complexions, less skin ailments like dryness and oiliness, and a supple, more youthful appearance. There’s no doubt that staying hydrated is the easiest way to improve your skin’s health. A good rule of thumb is to measure your body weight in pounds, divide that in half, and drink that many ounces of water each day. For example, a person who weighs 150 pounds should be drinking at least 75 ounces (just shy of 9.5 cups) of water per day (150 / 2 = 75).

2. Get Regular Skin Screenings

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S., with an estimated 9,500 people being diagnosed with some form of it each day. If you or your family has a history of skin cancer, or you have any of the other risk factors, make your New Year’s resolution to get regular skin cancer screenings in 2024. Routine screenings are necessary to identify skin cancer early and have the best chance of treating it successfully.

3. Incorporate Antioxidants Into Your Diet & Routine

Antioxidants are more than just a passing fad…these skincare powerhouses are essential to fight oxidative stress caused by free radicals, which are known to damage skin cells and hasten the signs of aging. Antioxidants can also help repair previous oxidative damage, helping you keep that fresh, youthful appearance longer. As if all that wasn’t enough, antioxidants have also been shown to reduce inflammation in the skin, helping diminish symptoms of acne, rosacea, psoriasis, and more. If you’re not already getting enough antioxidants in your diet or skincare products each day, consider boosting your intake as your 2024 New Year’s resolution.

4. Embrace Sun Protection

We’ve already talked about the prevalence of skin cancer and how to detect it early, but how do you prevent it in the first place? Aside from staying out of the sun as much as possible, the CDC recommends wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Make this year’s New Year’s resolution to apply sunscreen daily in a thick layer to all exposed skin, including the face, 15-30 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every two hours while you’re still exposed to the sun. This will block both UVA and UVB rays, protecting your skin from skin cell mutations.

5. Commit to a Consistent Skincare Regimen

If you’re still washing and moisturizing your face like a teenager, make 2024 the year that you finally find your perfect skincare routine and stick to it. Maintaining a consistent skincare routine is crucial for skin health. If you’re not cleansing, exfoliating, masking, and moisturizing on a regular schedule, you’re not giving your skin the care it needs to function or look its best. By using a skincare regimen tailored to your specific skin needs you can achieve a dewy glow and clear complexion.

6. Healthy Diet for Healthy Skin

We mentioned before that your skin is your largest organ and is crucial to protecting your body from the toxic world around us. It should come as no surprise that your skin needs essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and more to function optimally. Eating a healthy, balanced diet is one of the easiest things you can do to keep your skin (and the rest of your body) looking great. Make it your New Year’s resolution to pack your daily diet with lots of fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid skin-damaging processed and junk foods, including foods high in sugar. If you’re worried you’re not getting everything you need through your diet, try a high-quality whole-food multivitamin.

7. Get Enough Sleep

Getting enough sleep isn’t just so you don’t feel tired the next day…sleep is our body’s time to recover and recharge, including repairing any damage to the skin and other organs. While we sleep, our blood flow increases, bringing lots of reparative substances and molecules to any area of damage, including age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles. People who don’t get enough sleep often report feeling more stressed and less regulated, exacerbating skin problems. Make it your resolution in 2024 to get at least 8 hours of quality sleep every single night.

8. Consider Professional Treatments
