Microneedling

Microneedling uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering the body's repair response and new collagen production. At Ultimate Image it is performed with stem cell growth factors applied during treatment. Most patients need a series of three to six sessions.

Microneedling

How Microneedling Works

A device passes fine needles through the surface of the skin at a controlled depth, creating thousands of microscopic channels. Each channel is a small, deliberate injury that the body responds to by producing new collagen and elastin. Because the channels are tiny and surrounded by intact tissue, healing is fast.

Those same channels also let topical actives penetrate far deeper than they otherwise could, which is why the products used during treatment matter. Growth factors applied at the time of treatment reach the level where new collagen is being built.

Who Microneedling Is For

Microneedling suits patients working on texture and firmness:

  • Acne scarring and other textural irregularity
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines and early laxity
  • Overall dullness and uneven tone
  • Stretch marks on the body

It is safe across a wider range of skin types than many laser treatments, which makes it a good option for patients who are not candidates for resurfacing lasers.

What to Expect

Topical numbing is applied for about 30 minutes first. Treatment itself takes 30 to 45 minutes. Most patients describe a vibrating, scratchy sensation rather than pain, with more sensitivity on the forehead and around the nose.

Your skin will look flushed immediately afterward, similar to a moderate sunburn.

Aftercare

Redness lasts 24 to 48 hours, and some patients see light flaking on day three or four. Skip makeup for the rest of the day, avoid active ingredients such as retinoids and acids for several days, and use strict sun protection.

Improvement builds over four to six weeks as new collagen forms. Most patients need three to six sessions spaced four weeks apart.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many microneedling sessions do I need?

Three to six spaced about four weeks apart is typical. Deeper acne scarring generally needs the higher end of that range.

Does microneedling hurt?

Topical numbing makes it very manageable. Most patients describe pressure and vibration rather than pain.

Can microneedling be combined with PRP?

Yes, and it is a common pairing. The channels created by the needles let the platelet concentrate reach deeper into the skin.
