Dysport®

Dysport is an injectable neuromodulator that relaxes the muscles creating expression lines. It has a faster onset than Botox, with results often visible in two to three days, and it diffuses more readily, which makes it well suited to broader areas like the forehead.

How Dysport Works

Dysport is abobotulinumtoxinA. Like other neuromodulators it interrupts the signal between nerve and muscle so the treated muscle relaxes and the skin above it stops folding.

Its distinguishing property is diffusion. Dysport spreads slightly further from each injection point than Botox does, so a broad area can be treated smoothly with fewer injection sites. In the hands of an experienced injector that is an advantage. It is also why placement matters.

Who Dysport Is For

Dysport is a strong choice for patients who:

  • Are treating a wide forehead or a large treatment area
  • Want to see results as quickly as possible
  • Have found another neuromodulator slow to take effect
  • Prefer fewer injection points per session

Dr. Besnoff will recommend the product that best fits your muscle pattern and your goals rather than defaulting to one brand.

What to Expect

The appointment takes about 15 minutes. Injection points are marked, then a series of small injections is placed with a fine needle. There is no numbing required and no recovery period.

You can go straight back to your day. Stay upright for four hours and hold off on exercise until the next morning.

Aftercare

Expect small raised bumps at the injection sites for around an hour. Occasional light bruising resolves in a few days. Avoid massaging the area, since Dysport diffuses more readily than other neuromodulators.

Results usually begin at two to three days and settle fully by two weeks. Maintenance is typically every three to four months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dysport better than Botox?

Neither is better. Dysport tends to act faster and spreads more, which suits larger areas. Botox stays more localized, which suits precise work. The right choice depends on your anatomy and your goals.

How fast does Dysport work?

Many patients notice softening within two to three days, with the full result at about two weeks.

Can I switch from Botox to Dysport?

Yes. Many patients try both and settle on a preference. Dosing units are not interchangeable between the two, which is one reason to be treated by an experienced injector.
