Spider Vein Treatment

Spider vein treatment closes the small visible veins that appear near the surface of the skin. Energy is absorbed by the blood within the vessel, collapsing it so the body clears it over the following weeks. Treated veins do not return.

How Spider Vein Treatment Works

Energy is directed at the vessel and absorbed by the blood inside it. That heats the vessel wall and causes it to collapse and seal. Over the following weeks the body breaks down and clears the closed vessel, and it disappears from view.

Blood simply reroutes through the healthy vessels nearby, so closing a spider vein has no effect on circulation.

Who Spider Vein Treatment Is For

Treatment suits patients bothered by:

  • Fine red or purple veins on the legs
  • Broken capillaries on the face, particularly around the nose and cheeks
  • Redness from sun damage or rosacea-related vessels

Larger bulging varicose veins are a different condition requiring a vascular assessment rather than cosmetic treatment.

What to Expect

Treatment length depends on how many vessels are being addressed, typically 15 to 30 minutes. Each pulse feels like a quick snap. No anesthetic is required for most patients.

Treated vessels may look darker or slightly raised immediately afterward.

Aftercare

Redness and mild swelling along the treated vessels settle over a few days. Bruising is possible on the legs. Avoid heat, hot baths and strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours, and use sun protection on treated areas.

Vessels clear gradually over two to six weeks. Some need more than one session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the veins come back?

Treated vessels are cleared permanently. New spider veins can develop over time, since the underlying tendency does not change.

How many treatments will I need?

Many patients need one to three sessions depending on how many vessels are present and how prominent they are.

Is this the same as varicose vein treatment?

No. Larger bulging varicose veins need a vascular evaluation and a different approach.
