How Hand Rejuvenation Works
Hands age on two fronts. Fat padding on the back of the hand thins, which makes tendons, veins and bones prominent. At the same time sun exposure leaves brown spots and thinned, crepey skin.
Volume is restored by injecting filler into the plane above the tendons, which cushions the structures underneath so they read as less prominent. Pigment is treated separately with light-based therapy that targets the brown spots directly.
Who Hand Rejuvenation Is For
This suits patients who:
- Have had facial treatment and find their hands now look older than their face
- Are bothered by prominent veins and tendons
- Have accumulated sun spots on the backs of the hands
Hands are one of the most consistently overlooked areas in aesthetics, and in Florida they take more sun than almost anywhere else on the body.
What to Expect
For volume restoration, the area is numbed and filler is placed with a cannula, then massaged to distribute it evenly. This takes about 30 minutes. Pigment treatment with IPL takes a further 15 to 20 minutes if you are addressing both.
Volume improvement is visible immediately.
Aftercare
Expect swelling for several days after volume restoration, and possible bruising. Avoid strenuous hand use and heat for 24 to 48 hours. If pigment was treated, brown spots will darken before flaking away over about a week.
Use sun protection on your hands consistently. It is the single thing that preserves the result.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does hand rejuvenation last?
Volume restoration with a collagen-stimulating filler typically lasts a year or longer. Pigment results last as long as you protect your hands from sun.
Can both be done at once?
Usually, though your provider may stage them depending on your skin and how much is being treated.
Does it hurt?
Numbing is used for volume restoration. Most patients tolerate it well, with tenderness for a day or two afterward.
